THE annual Westbury on Trym Village Show was held at the Village Hall on Saturday September 5. Hundreds of visitors made the most of the early autumn sunshine, meeting up with friends and family over delicious food. The music played enjoyed by the Marshfield Band added to the traditional show atmosphere. There was a wide variety of stalls, and a number of local organisations and small businesses were represented.
This year’s theme was ‘Branch Out With Trees’, so it was fitting that the show was opened by Libby Boere, who is the Youth Representative for Friends of Badock’s Wood. She made a short speech about the history of the wood and her family’s long association with it. Further information about the work of the organisation was provided on one of the stalls.
The theme proved popular with exhibitors and visitors. Despite challenging growing conditions, the horticultural classes featured many impressive entries. The photography and children’s flower-arranging classes attracted record numbers, while the cooking, flower arranging, art, needlework and handicrafts classes showcased a wide range of imaginative and skilful work from talented local people.
The show is primarily a community event, but funds raised are donated to the upkeep of the Village Hall. The organising committee is grateful to the many businesses and organisations in the community who supported the event by placing advertisements in the schedule or by donating prizes for the raffle, and to all the exhibitors, volunteers and visitors, who contributed to the success of the day.
Next year’s show will be held on Saturday September 4, so please save the date!
