St Peter’s Hospice is calling on people across Bristol to turn the city blue this October as it launches a campaign encouraging communities to come together in support of the city’s only adult hospice.
The charity is inviting schools, businesses, community groups, families and individuals to take part in Wear It Blue activities during Hospice Care Week from 5–11 October.
People can get involved by dressing in blue, hosting a fund-raising event and helping raise awareness of the vital care St Peter’s Hospice provides to local adults living with life-limiting illness and their families.
Whether it’s a workplace dress-down day, a blue-themed bake sale, a school non-uniform day, afternoon tea, colour run or something unique, supporters are encouraged to choose a date during Hospice Care Week – or another date that suits them – and get creative.
As part of the campaign, St Peter’s Hospice is also encouraging people to visit its charity shops, where they can pick up affordable blue clothing, accessories and hidden treasures ready for the week. Every purchase helps raise additional funds, making it even easier to support the hospice while finding the perfect outfit.
Hayley Ali, events fundraising manager, said: “We’re really excited to be launching our brand-new campaign, Wear It Blue. It’s a simple and fun way for people of all ages and abilities to get involved and celebrate Hospice Care Week.
“We can’t wait to see the creative things our community comes up with to support the campaign.”
Anyone taking part can download a free fundraising pack to help make their event a success.
St Peter’s Hospice receives only 20% of its funding through the government, with the rest made up of funds from fundraising events, generous donations and its retail shops. It costs around £30,000 a day to run the hospice.
