Discovering a bright new future

At the beginning of the year, locals around Shirehampton and Stoke Bishop were sorry to see the closure of popular eatery, The Hideaway, after it faced “unprecedented challenges”.

So the reopening of the Hideaway a few weeks ago has been greeted with delight by customers old and new. The new Hideaway continues to offer a welcoming atmosphere in a comfortable setting, with a menu sourced from local suppliers from Bristol and the South West where possible. However, the new venture comes with a twist: it has opened its doors as The Hideaway@Discovery, under the umbrella of Discovery Education, a local company that provides alternate learning provision to children and young adults in eight sites across North Bristol. Discovery Education’s ethos is that children and young people deserve the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.

The new Hideaway team offer a warm welcome to all

As part of this aim, The Hideaway@Discovery will be staffed by teenagers working towards BTEC qualifications in hospitality and catering, learning with their one-to-one tutors in the kitchen and cafe space. Such an opportunity provides them with the hands-on education and experience to progress into employment within the hospitality sector. The first cohort of students commences with the start of the September term.

Co-owner, Paul  Morgan, told the Voice: “It’s great to have The Hideaway back open and welcoming the community again. With an improved play area, it’s become a real hub for parents and grandparents as well as numerous groups coming for their weekly catch-ups.

“We want this to be a place where everyone feels welcome and if you have any suggestions on how we can keep improving or would like to book the space for an event, then do let us know.”
