Elmlea Junior School in Westbury on Trym now officially has some of the fastest swimmers in the country.
The school’s relay swimming team – Reuben, Hamish, Lana and Harry – achieved a number of successes at the 30th Primary Teams Championships at the world-renowned Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield in June.
Having qualified through the regional finals, the team proudly represented Elmlea against some of the strongest primary school swimmers from across the country. They rose to the occasion, achieving personal best times in both the 4 x 25m Freestyle Relay and the 4 x 25m Medley Relay.
Their outstanding freestyle performance earned them a place in the B Final of the 4 x 25m Freestyle Relay. Overall, the team finished as the 10th fastest primary school relay team in the country and the 3rd fastest state school—an exceptional achievement.
A particular highlight of the day was meeting Karen Pickering MBE, President of the English Schools’ Swimming Association and a former World Champion swimmer, who took time to speak with the children about her experiences in the sport.
A spokesperson said: “We are incredibly proud of the swimmers for their commitment, teamwork and determination. They represented Elmlea brilliantly and should be immensely proud of their achievements.”
