CAMPAIGNERS say the revised plans for development of the St Christopher’s site are severely lacking in detail.
“There is a disappointing and deeply worrying lack of basic information to help the community understand what the development will actually look like or the impact it will have on our neighbourhood,” said a spokesperson for SCAN, St Christopher’s Action Network.
“Traffic congestion, road safety and parking are the community’s number one concerns – but we can’t give any meaningful feedback if we don’t have the full facts.”
SCAN, which wants to see a sensitive and appropriate development of the site, is concerned that the total number of housing units and parking spaces on the site is unclear. The developers, Square Bay and Acorn, have reduced the number of new-build homes proposed from 40 to 34 – but the campaigners fear that the number of flats in the converted Victorian lodges on the site could increase.
They also object to plans to increase the size of some of the new houses from two storeys to three, which they say would be out of character for the neighbourhood.
SCAN’s comments came after the developers held a consultation event on September 24 to discuss the changes they had made to their proposals for the former special school site in response to comments from the public.
The developers say they expect to put in a planning application to Bristol City Council this month and will include a consultation report summarising all feedback received. According to their website, they expect the project to be completed by 2030.
“Throughout the process, we plan to provide updates via our website, as well as via community groups,” the developers say.
