CAMPAIGNERS have welcomed the news that the ban on vans parking on the Downs could be extended into 2028.
A court review last month of the injunction granted to Bristol City Council until May 2027 was told that it was working well.
The judge agreed that another review would take place in March 2027 to consider an extension for another year.
More than 100 vehicles were moved on from the Downs earlier this year and the council says the number of roadside vehicle dwellers across the city has dropped by more than a quarter.
The campaign group Protect the Downs is continuing to monitor the situation in the area closely.
The council has set up seven “meanwhile sites” offering 83 pitches so far, where van dwellers can go and intends to increase the number of pitches to 157.
But there are concerns that roadside vans have simply moved elsewhere. People living near St Andrews Park say they have seen an influx of vehicles.
One resident said: “It’s definitely got worse since the council ordered van dwellers away from the Downs last year.”
