Fairfield High School (FHS) has once again been awarded The Prince’s Teaching Institute (PTI) Mark for outstanding teaching in Maths.
Launched over 25 years ago, the PTI Schools Programme recognises excellence in the teaching of a wide range of subjects, regardless of pupils’ backgrounds or abilities. The award highlights departments that strengthen subject knowledge, raise challenge within the curriculum and provide meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom.
Pierre Gerrard, director of mathematics at FHS, said: “Our commitment to actively engage learners through the demonstration of coherence in lessons has been a contributory factor to this year’s prestigious award. I would like to thank our maths team who work relentlessly to deliver an interesting and varied curriculum, with extra-curricular opportunities.”
In recent months, the maths department has demonstrated this commitment through enrichment opportunities, including trips to Oxford and the University of the West of England. These experiences enabled students to engage with mathematics in real-world contexts — from exploring historical scientific ideas to taking part in workshops showcasing the modern applications of maths.
