Hear right, think bright

Your hearing today shapes your brain tomorrow.

Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (BDAA) is committed to helping people reduce their risk of dementia by promoting healthy lifestyle choices and supporting those living with dementia and their carers. It brings organisations and communities together to provide activities, information, training and support, helping people live well with dementia and creating a more dementia-friendly Bristol.

One important and often overlooked step in maintaining brain health is looking after your hearing. Research has shown that untreated hearing loss is linked to an increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia. While hearing loss doesn’t cause dementia, recognising and managing hearing loss early is one of the positive actions you can take to support long-term brain health.

Three simple steps to protect your hearing and your brain

• Check your hearing if you notice any changes.

• Wear your hearing aids regularly if you’ve been prescribed them.

• Take action early – treating hearing loss can help you stay connected, active and engaged.
