Seasonal switch-on

Clifton Village will be transformed when the lights on a giant Christmas Tree are switched on later this month.

The 50 foot Norwegian spruce tree will be covered in 5,000 LED lights, 100 baubles, wrapped boxes of Christmas presents and tinsel  paper.

Tony Miles, who is organising the event for the nineteenth  time, said:  ”We are planing to have a celebrity to switch on the lights but we won’t disclose who it is until nearer the time.”

The lights will be switched on in The Mall Gardens at 6.30 pm on November 12. Before that happens there will be 30 minutes of carol singing led by vocalists from nearby Christ Church.

The tree and lights are paid for by local traders through Clifton Bid (Business Improvement District).  Shops in the village will be staying open later for Christmas shopping.
